Curriculum

Math

Please work with your child at home on basic multiplication facts.  You can go to this site and print off your own flashcards: https://www.multiplication.com/flashcards.htm

Walmart and Dollar Tree have flashcards as well.  When the students know the basic multiplication facts it helps them feel confident with more complex math problems.

Most homework your child brings home is Math.  Students may bring home their Student Reference Book anytime to help with homework.

Spelling

Your child will bring home a spelling list every Monday.  There will be 18 new words on the list, 5 review words from the week before, and 2 challenge words.  The students take a pre-test on Thursday.  If the student spells all 25 words correctly then they do not have to take the spelling test on Friday.

Reading

Reading is a large part of our daily learning in 4th grade.  Reading lessons include silent reading, guided reading with Mrs. Munding, and whole group reading.  Mrs. Munding has a large classroom library where the students can pick out books of their choice to read.  Mrs. Munding also selects books for the students to read.  The class visits the Kennedy library once a week.  The students are also allowed to go on their own during the week.  Students may check out four books of their choice.  Please read with your child at home.  It also benefits students to read to younger siblings.  Students in the 4th grade should read at least 20 minutes a night.

Social Studies

The students will be tested on the United States of America capitals throughout the year.  The tests are broken up into regions.  Your child may bring home their Social Studies text book at any time to study these regions.
